
Principal, MA in Educational Psychology
Ms. Jeffrey holds an M.A. in Educational Psychology from SFU, a Bachelor of History and Archaeology (double major) from SFU; an A.A. and B.A.A. Design (Summa Cum Laude) from the American College for the Applied Arts in London England; her teaching certification Professional Development Program (PDP) from SFU; and a Certificate in Liberal Arts in Languages from SFU.
Kathleen is also a Bright Start Trainer of Trainers, is trained in F.I.E. levels 1, 2, and 3; trained in Dynamic Assessment for Young Children and L.P.A.D.; and trained in the Parents as Mediators program. She was a teacher for Vancouver School Board for 10 years, teaching both elementary and high school including as a special education case manager. At that time she was a School Associate for the PDP Program at SFU training new teachers a number of times. Ms. Jeffrey has been associated with the Variety Learning Centre since 1996 as Summer School Teacher, Saturday Class Teacher, Tutor, Professional Educational Trainer and Fund Raising Chair. She was also the only language arts program trainer for the Open Court program for McGraw-Hill Ryerson Press in British Columbia.
Ms. Jeffrey has taught numerous workshops across Canada (many school districts in the Lower mainland, Pemberton, Whistler, Bella Coola, Fort St. James, Red Deer, Calgary, Toronto) the US ( Seattle, Sacramento, San Diego, San Marcos, Carlsbad, San Francisco, Fullerton, Knoxville, San Antonio) and Europe (Belgium, Holland, Israel) on Mediated Learning Experience, Phonemic Awareness, and Language Acquisition in Young Children. Ms. Jeffrey was in Russia in November 2003, where she was invited to present her research in Parental Mediation and Language Development at the Russian State University. In addition, she taught at Cal State Fullerton University for a summer and at the University of Washington for a session. She completed her FIE Trainers II level in July 2004 in Amsterdam. She then proceeded to Israel to work with Prof. Feuerstein and Vygotsky scholar Prof. Alex Kozulin in August 2004. She has published a book: Bridging to Enrichment, as well as articles on mediation and language acquisition.
Kathleen has presented papers both nationally and internationally: San Diego CA, Vancouver BC, Seattle WA (University of Washington), Toronto ON, Carlsbad CA, Knoxville TN (University of Knoxville), San Francisco CA, and Moscow ( Russian State University) . From 2006 – 2013 she was appointed to the BC Ministry of Education Special Education Committee for Independent Schools in Victoria. From 2013 to 2018 she was a Lead School Inspector and Lead auditor with the Ministry of Education. Ms. Jeffrey was a key part of the Vygotsky documentary.
