Speech Therapy

At GHLA, Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) support students with all aspects of communication. We strongly believe in neurodiversity-affirming practice; supporting students for who they are, and embracing their differences. SLPs may help non-speaking or minimally speaking students to use augmentative or alternative communication (AAC), help with speech sound disorders (articulation/phonology/motor speech), expressive and receptive language, narrative skills, executive functioning skills, interoceptive awareness, and aspects of social communication (including self advocacy, understanding neurodiversity, masking, and different communication styles). SLPs work closely with the entire team (Teachers, EAs, OTs, PT, Counselor, Music Therapist) to help students access language for many different communication functions.

Support may be provided through direct 1:1 sessions (push-in, outside of the classroom, in collaboration with OT), small groups, classroom groups, and staff consultation and coaching, in order to flexibly and effectively meet the needs of each individual student.
