Amazing!
I didn’t want this day to go by without saying just how truly amazing you all are . From the fearless Kathleen and her office posse (Linda and Andrea) “The get it Done team“ these ladies are the front line and helpline and just about everything else you can think of but mostly the KINDNESS line.
I want to thank all of the teachers, SEAs, therapists, music, OT/home ec and any other special GHLA staff from days of past to present.
This school has been a Life Safer for my son. From the first day we came to the school, that first moment changed him! I want to thank you all for your continued dedication to our children, for your endless hours of work, time, energy, and caring that you give each and every one of them. He was Invisible before GHLA.
Thank you for seeing my son and not only allowing him to be different but for embracing his differences with open minds and supportive arms.
God bless you all!!!!
Thank you from a mother who sees angels everyday in all of you.
In kindness and appreciation,
M. S.
Like chalk and cheese…
My boy was in the public school system, where he was being basically warehoused because they didn’t know how to deal with mild-to-moderate autism. He was being set aside in a room by himself with a worksheet, and we were attending meeting after meeting where ideas were requested, suggestions were made, but ultimately nothing ever happened. I had hoped we would find something different when we brought him to this school, but I was uncertain… could these people help? And he was assessed, and he started classes, and we were called in for, yes, a meeting, his IEP.
And I was blown away.
Report after report after report about what his teachers actually saw him doing, what his strengths were. Suggestions about what they could do to help that actually seemed to make sense. A feeling that someone actually understood our child for the first time in his academic career, and that people were actually willing to help him as an individual, rather than trying to file off the sharp corners so he’d fit in their convenient little peg-box.
And then to put the icing on the cake, when I stopped in to pick him up the next day, the suggestions that had been made at that meeting were already being acted on. Not pending action, not waiting for resources. Done. Happening. I was stunned. And they kept being done as long as he was there, and he learned, and he knew he was accepted.
My son has graduated now, has gone on to graduate from a trade school, and is running his own small business; this school is what made it possible. The debt I owe these teachers, these SEAs and therapists, these saints, is immeasurable. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all.

Graduated!
I just graduated from UBC with a Bachelor’s in Math! Thanks GHLA. I could not have done it without you and your support and teaching.

First Class!
My daughter was a member of the first class when the school opened in 2003.
Prior to coming to the school, she had some challenges with learning in the public school system.
She had amazing support from the school including small classes, and an educational assistant
She learned a tremendous amount and was able to achieve her best potential.
I highly recommend the Greater Heights Learning Academy

GHLA is a wonderful, caring and safe learning environment with great teachers, therapists, assistants and staff who put the students first. We are so glad our son had the opportunity to attend such a special, one-of-a-kind school.

Now hear this!!! Our son, J…, graduated from high school !!!! We are the proudest parents ever and thank our entire “village” for helping us get him there!
Yes, the same son that when he was in grade 7, half way through the year, the public school he was in wanted to put him on modified curriculum because he was having some academic and behavior difficulties , meaning he would not graduate with a full Dogwood Diploma and we said “No Way!” In fact, I told them that they were giving up on him and failing to educate him!
The same son, that we moved to Greater Heights Learning Academy and there he blossomed. They took the time to learn how he learned best and made sure he had the support to help him succeed!!!! They set him up to win, not fail!!!
J…has become such a strong, well spoken young man! We are all so proud of him!!! Well done!
Post script: He completed a vet assistant diploma through Douglas College and has worked in the field for a few years. This year he applying to university to become an LPN and hopefully an RN.
Our other son – who struggled similarly with self regulation – and graduated GHLA a year ago – is now training to become a commercial pilot!

Past Student!
I wanted to share to you that I passed the third actuarial exam. It was tough but I pulled through. I want to thank you for opening GHLA, if it wasn’t for GHLA, I do not believe that I would have made it here!
