At Greater Heights Learning Academy (GHLA) the Physiotherapist (PT) provides support to students who are impacted by their physical health from neurodiversity. health conditions or injuries. Following a file review of referred students, students are individually assessed and a treatment plan and goals are established. Students receive one to one physiotherapy sessions working on areas assessed as requiring support, this could include:
- stability exercises for the spine and/or joints
- flexibility/stretching
- range of movement
- propioception (bodies ability to know where it is in space)
- motor planning (the steps required to perform a task)
- coordination
- static and dynamic balance
- postural support/correction
- manual therapy
- incorporating the students sensory and/or movement needs as required
- education and advice on physical health
- physical goals students want to achieve
- classroom visits/support
- understanding the student as a whole and, as appropriate, supporting them in understanding themselves and how their specific brain works
